A manifesto by Jonathan W. Pritchard

We are all Mentalists

One universal spirit. Billions of different instruments. Every life a broadcast unlike any other.

The world is mental. What will you make of it?

Every tool you have ever used was an idea first. Someone imagined it, learned the skills needed to bring it to life, and then changed the shape of the world until it matched what they could see in their mind.

Same signal. different sound.

I believe spirit is universal. Each of us receives it through a body, a history, a nervous system, and a particular set of gifts.

The instrument changes the broadcast.

Whatever you create has never existed before. That makes your life worth living on purpose.

WE KEEP MOVING. THE SIGNAL DOESN'T STOP.

The Earth turns. It circles the sun. The sun moves through the galaxy. Our place in the universe is never the same twice, yet here we are, still aware.

I believe what animates us isn't confined to one patch of space.

You aren't searching for a signal. You're learning to play the instrument.

THE MANIFESTO.

I've spent my life making people wonder whether I can read minds. The deeper question is what a mind actually is.

I believe spirit is universal. I believe the body is an instrument for receiving it. We're made of water, nerves, memory, appetite, and electricity, and somehow each of us turns a shared signal into a life no one else could live.

Change the instrument and you change the sound. One person becomes a painter. Another builds a company. Another raises a child, repairs an engine, or walks onstage and makes a room go silent. Different broadcasts. Same source.

We talk about spirit as though it belongs to a place. But our position in the universe is never the same, and yet we still wake up here, aware. I can't draw a boundary around something that seems to be with us wherever we go.

THAT'S WHY I CALL MYSELF A MENTALIST.

Onstage, I work with attention, expectation, belief, and choice. Offstage, so does everyone. The stories we tell shape what we notice. What we notice shapes what we attempt. What we practice changes what we can do. And what we do changes the world we all have to live in.

A tool begins as a thought. It becomes real when someone learns enough, works long enough, and gives that thought a shape that other people can use. That is alchemy that I can put my hands on.

I believe we're capable of more than we've been taught to believe. I also think imagination owes something to reality. If an idea matters, build it. Test it. Let the work change you as you change the work.

Listen closely to your own signal. Learn your instrument. Then make something beautiful with it.

THE IMPOSSIBLE IS OFTEN AN IDEA WAITING FOR SKILL.

Thought. Skill. Transformation.

Imagine It

Give enough shape to the idea so you know what you're trying to create.

Practice the skill.

Study the material. Learn the craft. Let effort turn an intention into ability. Develop strong kung fu.

Change the world.

Build something other people can experience, use, feel, or remember.

Make the impossible real.

Impossible Alchemy is where I study how ideas become actions, and actions become a different world.
