I know nothing about tarot. Is this going to be too advanced?

No. It starts at zero. Knowing nothing is an advantage. You have no habits to undo.

Which deck do I need?

I recommend a Tarot de Marseille. Any Marseille pattern will do, and they run about twenty dollars online. I never suggest starting with a Rider-Waite.

Why not use Rider-Waite? Everybody uses it!

Because somebody drew a scene on every single card, and each sceneis loaded with his idea of what occult symbolism should be. Learning that deck means learning one man's baggage and then reciting it back. The Marseille number cards have no scenes on them at all. Nothing to decode, nothing to look up, nothing to take on faith.

Is this fortune telling?

Nope! Nothing here predicts the future. You're learning how to have a real conversation with somebody about the life they're actually living.

Do I have to believe in any of this?

No, and I'd rather you didn't take anything on faith. Nothing here asks you to accept a hidden system or a set of spiritual claims. You put a card down, and you have a real conversation with the person in front of you.

Can't I learn this for free on YouTube?
